Quote: “The Tradition teaches that Death is a release, an enabling act of the soul on its path towards Ascension. But for those to whom it comes too soon, it is a hindrance on that path. Those worthy enough should be protected from that cheating form of Death until they are ready.”

Concept: A Euthanatos dedicated to preserving lives of people who otherwise would be in danger of dying before their time.

Description: Francis is in his mod-30’s, a tall, slender, clean-shaven, pale form of a man, with short, prematurely greying black hair and startling blue eyes. He dresses usually in grey suits but is more comfortable in casual outfits. He is about 6′ 2″ tall and exercises regularly to maintain his 190 lbs. He usually hides his blue eyes behind mirrored sunglasses.

Prelude: Francis was a cop, and a good one. More’s the pity.

He was being set up to take the fall for a corrupt superior when a Euthanatos sent that superior on to his next incarnation. This Euthanatos recognized something arcane in Francis, sensing a possible Mage, or at least a potential Acolyte or Consor, and recruited him on the spot. After three years in the Chantry Francis has exceeded his former mentor’s expectations and has become an outstanding Mage in his own right.

Magick: The seemingly contradictory Spheres of Entropy and Life embody Francis’s purpose in life. He is committed to protecting life until it is worthy of death.

Backgrounds: Francis suspects that his Avatar was the one responsible for his introduction to the Euthanatos. For Francis, the little Death that is sleep is a welcome thing, for in his dreams he finds wisdom that he knew in earlier incarnations. Finally Francis leads a frugal existence and depends on his Chantry for a stable home. Otherwise he carries all his wordly possessions with him at all times.

Merits: His heightened senses are the result of years of training and discipline, begun when he dedicated his life to the preservation of the lives of others. [Acute Senses (1), Higher Purpose: the preservation of life (1)] His dedication and stamina has also given him a higher degree of resistance to poisons and toxins. [Poison Resistance (1)]

Flaws: Francis takes his job way too seriously, however. He has been known to brave burning buildings to rescue children, for instance. He often will help others endangered whether his superiors in the Tradition have permitted it or not. [Lifesaver (3)]

Equipment: Kevlar-woven vest; Heckler & Koch P7M10 heavy pistol (with silencer); collapsible Bo staff; first aid kit.

Roleplaying Hints: What can you do with an Euthanatos? They’re dull, dreary, cheerless, even more so than Hollow Ones! What you do is make one whose life is dedicated to preserving lives, not eliminating them. Fortunately, there is precedent for this, which came out in the 2nd edition rules.
