Seraph

Name: Juanita Martinez
Height: 5′ 2″
Weight: 105 lbs.
Age: 26
Sex: Female
Race: Hispanic

Description: Juanita is small and slight but energetic. Her quick brown eyes rarely miss anything in the emergency room. She keeps her black hair cut short to reduce the need to care for it on the job.

Background: Juanita was always told that the best thing she could do for her fellow man was to be a doctor. She also saw the effect of a lack of doctors in her neighborhood, and resolved to help when she was old enough. Unfortunately she didn’t have the money necessary to enter medical school, not to become a physician. However, she could become a nurse, and so was forced to accept the lower position. She graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago Circle and specialized in learning emergency room procedures, because of the rising number of violent crimes and accidents in her neighborhood. Upon graduation she got a position at the local hospital in the emergency room, and is now in charge of all nurses on her shift. She is well versed in emergency procedures and familiar with hospital bureaucracy; she regrets that she has become all too familiar with forensic procedures as a result. She is also familiar with events that happen in her community.

Personality: Juanita is a devout Catholic who believes that she has found and accepted her calling in the world and does everything she can to better herself in that respect. She is cheerful and giving, and, if requested, will gladly pray with her patients, since most come from her old neighborhood and some are her friends or relatives. Yet to a careful observer she seems somehow torn by her faith. Late one night, several months ago, she slipped an old man (who had been in a coma for several weeks and not likely ever to emerge) a fatal dose of his medication. The death was not remarkable and her complicity went unnoticed. Ever since she has been tortured by conflicting feelings of pity and doubt over the incident.

Powers: Juanita possesses the power to transform into an angelic figure with both the power of life and death: she can heal and she can painlessly kill. She also possesses the power to remove the superpowers of others.

Tag Phrase: “Madre de Dios, ayudame por favor.” <crossing herself> (“Mother of God, help me, please.”)
