Thursday Evening Amber

Thursday evening as a favor to Erick Wujcik I gamemastered a session of “Trump Tarot”. This is based on some of my speculations on the nature of the Trumps in the Amber books and game. The books describe a series of three Ambers and Patterns that are sequential and apparently tied to three of the four Tarot suits and mystical elements. The players were mysteriously given the four Aces of the Tarot suits with the apparent message that they were supposed to do something with them. After much investigation they found that a fourth Pattern once existed but had been destroyed by Brand as he tried to attune the Jewel of Judgement at it. The players had to use the power of the previous Patterns to re-establish the new Pattern, and after a little prompting, finally did so.

One afterword about the scenario: Robin Wood, whose Tarot deck I used, was in the dealer’s room and had the players approach her about her deck the following Friday morning. (I should have asked for a commission.)
